The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has said that more than 4,000 people have been recently internally displaced in Sudan and nearly 1,000 others have fled to Libya, this according to reporting by the Libya Observer. It follows clashes between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) around the border region with Egypt and Libya. In an IOM statement, it said its “field teams estimated that 4,278 people fled from the triangle area to Sudan’s Northern State between 15 and 17 June.” The organization went on to say that “around 950 people had crossed the border into Libya to escape the fighting, amid ongoing tensions and continued displacement in the region.”
