Egypt unveils new desert city amid debt-fueled Megaprojects push
Egypt has announced plans to build a 1,680-acre desert city, Jirian, diverting 7% of its annual Nile water quota
The third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3) opened Monday in Nice, France, bringing together world leaders, scientists, and environmental advocates to address problems facing the world's oceans. Spearheading North Africa’s participation was Morocco’s Princess Lalla Hasnaa, representing King Mohammed VI. The meetings are being hosted by France and Costa Rico, and in her address delivered on behalf of King Mohammed VI, Princess Lalla Hasnaa reiterated the strategic importance of Africa’s marine spaces. She also emphasized Morrocco’s commitment to the growth of the blue economy; stronger South-South cooperation as well as regional integration around oceanic areas.
