Algeria-France ties hit lowest point since 1962, says historian

Algeria and France are facing their worst crisis since Algeria's independence in 1962, historian Benjamin Stora told AFP, citing Macron's 2024 endorsement of Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara—a move opposed by Algeria. Stora said rebuilding trust requires addressing historical wounds from the independence war, which still haunt relations.
