Algeria has unveiled the $7 billion Bled El Habda integrated phosphate megaproject in Tebessa province, marking a major milestone in the country’s industrial and economic development, according to the trade publication Energy, Capital & Power.
Led by the Algerian Chinese Fertilizers Company, the project involves developing a massive phosphate ore mine with reserves of 2.2 billion tons and building a state-of-the-art production and processing complex in Qued Kebrik. It also includes the establishment of 21 phosphate processing units across Souk Ahras, Annaba, and Skikda, reinforcing Algeria's position as a top 10 producer in the global phosphate market.
Scheduled to begin operations in 2027, the project will create 12,000 jobs during construction and an additional 30,000 direct and indirect jobs once operational. With an estimated operational lifespan of 80 years, the mine is set to become a cornerstone of Algeria's long-term economic strategy, driving growth in fertilizer production and export potential.
