Algerian journalist says expelled from his country without explanation

Algerian journalist Farid Alilat, who writes for Jeune Afrique, was expelled upon his arrival from France and forced to leave Algeria after being detained for 11 hours at the airport on Saturday.

Alilat, holding a residency permit in France, described his ordeal in a Facebook post, highlighting the ongoing challenges journalists face in Algeria.

He said he was interrogated about his travels, who he has met with and about Jeune Afrique, which Algerian authorities believe favors their neighbor and regional rival, Morocco.
