A report published Tuesday by Amnesty International entitled Tunisia: “We were only asking for our rights and dignity” documents the targeting between February 2020 and January 2025 of 90 different protesters, activists, trade unionists, and workers who were trying to form or join a union, organize and participate in strikes or exercising their rights to peaceful gatherings. Sara Hashash, Deputy Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa at Amnesty International, said “the right to freedom of peaceful assembly is fundamental to a thriving society and serves as a crucial means to strengthen human rights and protect workers’ rights.”
