Egypt has proposed a $53 billion plan to rebuild Gaza over five years, focusing on emergency relief, infrastructure restoration and long-term economic development, without removing its population, according to AFP. It would include hundreds of thousands of temporary housing units where Gaza’s population could live while reconstruction takes place. It also calls for opening an airport, a fishing port and a commercial port. The plan aims to counter U.S. President Trump’s proposal to build a Middle East “Riviera” in the Gaza Strip.
