The UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) reported that its Tripoli headquarters was targeted in an attempted rocket strike, though no casualties or damage were recorded, reports AFP. Libya’s interior ministry said a rocket struck a house in Janzour, on the capital’s outskirts, and that security forces seized a pickup carrying two more missiles and a launch platform. No group has claimed responsibility.

The incident occurred as UNSMIL chief Hanna Tetteh was briefing the UN Security Council in New York. The mission praised Libyan authorities for their “swift measures” and said its premises were unaffected.

The Tripoli-based government condemned the attack as a “serious act” aimed at destabilising security and undermining international ties. Libya has been fractured since the 2011 overthrow of Moamer Kadhafi, with competing administrations in Tripoli and the east. The capital has witnessed repeated clashes between rival militias, most recently in May, underscoring the continued fragility of security institutions despite UN- backed efforts at reconciliation.
