China backs Egypt’s sovereignty over Suez Canal after Trump’s free passage demand

China supports Egypt’s sovereignty and rights over the Suez Canal, its foreign ministry said, after former U.S. President Donald Trump demanded free passage for U.S. vessels. Trump claimed on Truth Social that the canals "wouldn’t exist" without the U.S., urging free access—a request Egypt rejected. China opposes "bullying," spokesperson Lin Jian said. The Wall Street Journal reported Trump sought Egypt’s backing against Yemen’s Houthis, but President Al-Sisi linked stability to a Gaza ceasefire.
