Chinese solar firm Sunrev to build Egypt plant

China’s Sunrev will invest $200 million to build a solar manufacturing complex in Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone, officials announced. The two-phase project, spanning 200,000 square metres, will initially produce solar cells and modules (2 GW each), with later expansion into silicon ingots and wafers. It aims to create 1,800 jobs and generate $300 million in annual exports. Construction started Thursday, with Phase 1 operational by mid-2026. Egypt’s Prime Minister and industry ministers attended the signing. Sunrev, founded in 2008, runs nine factories in China’s Jiangsu province.
