Countries call for swift implementation of UN ceasefire vote

Maghreb and Arab countries are reacting to Monday’s call by the UN Security Council for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza five months into the grinding war, despite Israel's ally the United States abstaining.
Morocco and Egypt led the way with Egypt welcoming the resolution following the Security Council's "repeated inability" to demand a ceasefire.
"It represents the first important and necessary step to stop the
bloodshed," the Egyptian ministry of foreign affairs said in a statement to
the UN. Morocco’s permanent member at the UN stated: “This resolution is a crucial step towards putting an end to the suffering of Palestinian civilians.”
