Egypt and China have agreed to expand economic cooperation across key sectors, including electric vehicles, electronics, artificial intelligence, and renewable energy. The agreement also includes plans to organise an investment promotion forum in Cairo, Egypt’s Investment Ministry said, according to Egypt Today.

The pact, struck in Beijing between Egypt’s trade and investment minister Hassan El‑Khatib and China’s commerce minister Wang Wentao, builds on a bilateral trade volume of $17 billion. Wang hailed China as Egypt’s top trading partner and pointed to major Chinese investment in the TEDA‑Suez zone, the New Administrative Capital’s Iconic Tower and electric‑train and renewable‑energy projects.

El‑Khatib highlighted Egypt’s edge as a production and export hub, backed by its strategic location and trade agreements, and said Cairo is working to improve its investment climate and comply with WTO norms. He also noted an expected visit from China's premier next month and plans to host the 10th Egypt‑China joint committee session this year.

The agreement underlines a strategic push to diversify economic engagement beyond hydrocarbons.
