Egypt is seeking to deepen its partnership with NATO, particularly through counterterrorism efforts in Africa, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty told the NATO Council in Brussels, according to Egyptian media. He proposed expanded cooperation via the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping, and Peacebuilding (CCCPA), focusing on combating terrorism and organized crime.
Abdelatty also briefed NATO members on Egypt’s diplomatic push to end the war in Gaza, condemning Israeli attacks on civilians and rejecting forced displacement and collective punishment of Palestinians.
On Syria, he reaffirmed Egypt’s support for a political solution that preserves the country’s sovereignty. Regarding Libya, he reiterated Cairo’s backing for a unified state with legitimate institutions, the dismantling of militias, and the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries.
The visit underscores Egypt’s bid to position itself as a regional stabilizer and key NATO partner in North Africa and the Sahel.
