Egypt has increased its military presence along the Gaza border in northeastern Sinai, deploying additional armoured personnel carriers and troops, reported the Sinai Foundation for Human Rights.
According to the rights group, local residents of Sheikh Zuweid observed fifteen armoured personnel carriers equipped with combat gear heading towards the border on Wednesday evening.
Additionally, a separate convoy of armoured vehicles was seen arriving in the village of Al-Joura, south of Sheikh Zuweid. This military buildup comes as an Israeli ground operation near the adjacent town of Rafah seems forthcoming.
