What budget cuts at the UN mean for development goals

Egypt has contracted five new shipments of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from three international firms to help address its ongoing power crisis, according to a report in Asharq Business citing an unnamed government official, These shipments, scheduled for delivery between August and September, are intended to provide the country with continuous power supply through the summer.
Since April, Egypt has resumed LNG imports to meet rising domestic demand and offset declining local production. Earlier in June, the country secured 21 LNG shipments for the summer.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly recently reported a 12% increase in daily energy consumption, to over 37 gigawatts, resulting in a 4-gigawatt deficit. Earlier this week the government announced it aims to acheive 45 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity; wind and solar currently contribute 4.6 gigawatts to Egypt’s current renewable capacity with 2.8 gigawatts coming from hydroelectricity.
