Egypt extends crack down on Gaza protesters

Egypt has arrested several students for promoting pro-Palestinian solidarity campaigns and boycotts, Reuters reports. The detentions are a sign that Cairo does not want to allow space for private activism despite increased government criticism of Israeli policy in Gaza.

According to an independent Cairo-based rights group, at least 125 people have been arrested since the Gaza war began in October; 95 are still being held in pre-trial detention on charges including membership of a banned group or spreading false news.
