Egypt’s Suez Canal Authority (SCA) is exploring a strategic partnership with Cyprus-based UW Group to transform the Port Said Shipyard into a global maritime hub, Egypt Today reported, citing a government statement.

SCA Chairman Osama Rabie said the collaboration would focus on shipbuilding, repair, and sustainable ship recycling using green technologies. The plan aims to attract foreign investment, transfer advanced maritime technologies, and train Egypt’s workforce, strengthening the shipyard’s competitiveness in the region.

Rabie emphasized the importance of aligning the shipyard with international standards and expanding services to include container repair and eco-friendly dismantling, part of the SCA’s broader green transformation agenda.

UW Group advisor Vassilios Demetriades echoed this vision, citing Port Said’s strategic location at the northern end of the Suez Canal and its existing infrastructure as key assets. Both parties agreed to continue talks to refine the technical and economic framework needed to advance the project.
