Egypt’s Agiba Petroleum Company, a joint venture between EGPC and Italy’s Eni, has discovered a new oil field, Arcadia West, in the Western Desert, Egypt Today reported Monday. Drilled at the Arcadia-28 well, the find revealed a high-quality reservoir producing 2,500 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

Brought online immediately thanks to existing infrastructure, Arcadia West underscores the potential of the Masajid Formation, previously seen as non-productive. The announcement follows the success of the nearby Iris field, which continues to yield 7,500 boe/d. Advanced 3D seismic surveys supported the discovery, which aligns with Egypt’s broader strategy of quickly monetising near-field resources to boost energy security and reduce oil imports.

Agiba plans further drilling in the area to expand production and explore similar prospects. The Ministry of Petroleum praised the rapid development as a model for future projects to strengthen Egypt’s domestic hydrocarbon sector and cut reliance on foreign supplies.
