Egypt is pushing back against mounting pressure from the U.S. and Gulf allies to contribute financially and militarily to operations targeting the Houthis, according to a report by Egyptian outlet Mada Masr, cited in the Jerusalem Post.

As Houthi attacks on Red Sea shipping intensify, many global shipping firms have rerouted vessels around South Africa, bypassing a waterway that typically handles around 15% of global trade.

In response, the U.S. has escalated airstrikes in Yemen and is reportedly demanding concessions from Egypt, including free passage for American vessels through the Suez Canal and a greater U.S. role in Red Sea security.
