Turkey deports Egyptian accused of Muslim Brotherhood ties
Turkey has deported an Egyptian citizen accused of Muslim Brotherhood membership, Middle East Eye reported on Friday. Mohamed Abdelhafiz, a
Osama Abdel Khalek, Egypt’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, addressed the UN Security Council this week condemning Israel’s plan to relocate Palestinians in Gaza to a so-called “humanitarian city” in the southern part of the Strip, Middle East Monitor reports.
Khalek warned that any attempt to forcibly displace Palestinians could dangerously escalate the conflict. He emphasized that Egypt demands the full implementation of Security Council resolutions — particularly Resolution 2735 — and said these commitments must not be ignored.
The resolution that calls for a three-phase ceasefire to end the war in Gaza was adopted on June 10, 2024.
Condemning what he described as the deliberate starvation of civilians, Abdel Khalek said Israel’s tactics are driving Gaza toward famine. He demanded that the UN and humanitarian organizations be allowed unrestricted access, pointing to widespread international rejection of Israel’s current approach — especially the so-called “Gaza Humanitarian Organisation”.
He described the plan as a violation of international law and humanitarian principles, claiming it has become a deadly trap for civilians rather than a genuine aid mechanism.
“Let’s be honest — this is not humanitarian relief. It is a tool for humiliation, starvation, and death,” he said.
He concluded by calling on the Security Council and the international community to take responsibility for the devastation in Gaza and act urgently to stop the violence and protect civilians.
