Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty praised over four decades of close Egypt–US relations during his visit to Washington DC, Egypt Today reports. In a meeting with Senator Chris Coons, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Abdelatty highlighted robust engagement with Congress and growing cooperation on trade, investment, and regional security.
Abdelatty also outlined Egypt’s efforts in Gaza, including ceasefire mediation, humanitarian aid, and early recovery planning. He reaffirmed Cairo’s commitment to a two-state solution as the only path to lasting peace.
Turning to Sudan, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s support for state institutions and territorial integrity. On Nile water concerns, he called for compliance with international law on shared water resources, opposing unilateral actions and emphasizing Egypt’s right to safeguard its water security.
The meeting highlighted Cairo’s desire to maintain its strategic alignment with Washington while defending core regional interests.
