The visit reflects improved Franco-Moroccan ties following France’s 2024 recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara. In contrast, relations with Algeria—an ally of the separatist Polisario Front—have deteriorated, with Algiers expelling 12 French officials on Monday, prompting Paris to warn of a swift response.
