French anti-terrorism authorities are investigating the abduction of Algerian opposition figure Amir Boukhors—known online as “Amir DZ”—allegedly orchestrated by Algerian intelligence, Morocco World News reports, citing L’Express. Boukhors, a prominent critic of the Algerian regime, was kidnapped near Paris in April 2024 by a group posing as police, drugged, and held overnight east of the capital.
French investigators have indicted several suspects, including an Algerian consular agent and two diplomats believed to be undercover intelligence officers. The plot reportedly involved French civil servants recruited to help identify Algerian exiles. Authorities believe the operation aimed to forcibly return Boukhors to Algeria, where he faces a 20-year sentence.
The case has worsened diplomatic tensions between Paris and Algiers, prompting tit-for-tat expulsions. Boukhors’ lawyer has requested international arrest warrants, as the affair raises broader concerns over diplomatic cover, cross-border repression, and impunity for state-sponsored abductions.
