In a statement to the United Nations Greece has formally rejected all allegations made by the transitional government of Libya regarding maritime claims in the Eastern Mediterranean. Greece reaffirmed its position, grounding its arguments in international law and existing agreements with neighboring countries. The focus of the dispute is a 2019 MoU between Turkey and the then-Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA) predecessor to the current GNU, whereby maritime rights and existence of certain Greek island, Crete and Rhodes, were disregarded effectively establishing a corridor between Turkey and Libya.
