Egypt’s state gas company EGAS has awarded six new exploration blocks worth $245 million in an effort to boost
Greek authorities have rescued more than 500 migrants near Crete in recent days, including 280 on Saturday alone, AFP reports. Many had departed from Libya, paying thousands of dollars to smugglers. Among them was a 24-year-old Sudanese man who was arrested on trafficking charges. Crete lies on a key migratory route between North Africa—particularly Libya and Egypt—and mainland Europe.
