Italy impounds German charity ship involved in Libyan migrant dispute

Italian authorities have impounded a German charity ship, after it became involved in a dispute with the Libyan coast guard over rescuing about 100 migrants in international waters, Reuters reports. Following a decree issued Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni last year, Italy frequently halts the operations charity operated rescue vessels.

The charity, SOS Humanity said it was “falsely accused” of not coordinating with Libyan authorities, risking lives during a sea rescue.
