The International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced it has helped more than 100,000 migrants voluntarily return home from Libya over the past decade.

“This figure reflects a decade of efforts to offer a lifeline to migrants stranded in precarious conditions across the country,” the IOM said in a statement.

Many of those migrants, primarily men, were returned to 49 countries across Africa and Asia. The program covers the full cost of travel, identification documents, health checks, and reintegration support upon arrival.

Migrants in Libya often face severe hardships, including arbitrary detention, abuse in detention centers and at work sites, and limited access to employment and housing, according to human rights groups.

The IOM emphasized that all returns are voluntary and based on informed consent.

While it provides critical support for many, IOM said it remains deeply concerned about the persistent challenges and risks faced by migrants along the Central Mediterranean Route
