Mediators and Hamas make “significant progress” in Gaza truce talks

Mediators and Hamas representatives meeting in Cairo have made "significant progress" toward a Gaza truce, according to AFP citing Egyptian state-linked TV. Egypt, Qatar, and the US have been working to secure a six-week ceasefire between Israel and Hamas before Ramadan starts next week. The proposed agreement includes the release of hostages taken during the October 7 Hamas attack, in exchange for Palestinian prisoners held by Israel. AFP reports that that a senior US official said Israel has broadly accepted the terms of the temporary truce, which includes increased aid deliveries to Gaza.
