Moroccan court upholds one-year sentence for Islamist over anti-Saudi remarks

A Moroccan appeals court on Tuesday upheld a one-year prison sentence against Islamist activist Mohamed Boustati for making offensive comments about Saudi Arabia, his lawyer told AFP. Boustati, a member of the banned but tolerated Al Adl Wal Ihssane group, was arrested in February after Saudi intelligence complained about his online posts. A lower court convicted him in March. His lawyer, Mohamed Nouini, denounced the appeal court’s decision as "unjust." The case highlights Morocco’s sensitivity to diplomatic relations with Riyadh.
