The Moroccan film (Y)our Mother has won Best Arab Feature Documentary at the 6th Amman International Film Festival, Awal Film. Directed by Samira El Mouzghibati it follows a journey of family tragedy that reveals how the director’s sisters reacted, marginalizing their mother. Berlin film critic Topper Sherwood described the documentary as:

“The freedom of women is the point of this film: Liberation from the smothering care of one’s mother — as well as liberation from the sometimes-asphyxiating embrace of our parents’ traditional beliefs, in this case, of religion.”

A total of 60 films from 23 countries were screened at the Amman festival under the theme “An Unscripted World.”
