Morocco has approved the creation of a new state-backed company aimed at developing industrial zones dedicated to domestic defense production, Moroccan media reports.

With an initial budget of approximately $80,000, the company will be responsible for designing, managing, and promoting these zones to attract defense manufacturers interested in operating within Morocco.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to reduce the country’s dependence on foreign-made military equipment. The company’s mandate is valid for one year and aligns with Morocco’s long-term strategy to build a self-sustaining defense industry.

To support this ambition, Morocco has already introduced legislation allowing both domestic and foreign defense firms to form industrial partnerships within the country.

Interest from international defense companies is growing. India’s Tata Advanced Systems and Israel’s Elbit Systems are reportedly exploring potential collaborations and investments in the planned defense zones.

This marks another step in Morocco’s push to become a regional hub for defense production.
