Moroccan authorities have arrested an 18-year-old man suspected of affiliation with ISIS and planning terrorist attacks in the Settat province, south of Casablanca, according to local media. The arrest took place on Sunday following an investigation into the suspect’s activities and online communications.

Officials say the young man had established connections with North African ISIS members, receiving guidance on constructing explosives for potential attacks. Digital evidence suggests his social media accounts were used to promote ISIS propaganda, glorify past operations, and incite similar acts of violence.

The suspect is being held in custody while counterterrorism investigators work to identify potential accomplices and uncover broader extremist networks operating inside and beyond Morocco’s borders. Authorities believe the arrest could help prevent further plots and dismantle active recruitment efforts.

This incident comes just months after the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigation (BCIJ) apprehended four alleged ISIS operatives in July, who were reportedly active between the northern cities of Tetouan and Chefchaouen. The BCIJ has warned that the persistence of such cases highlights the ongoing and evolving terrorist threat facing the kingdom.
