Record-breaking temperatures scorched Morocco over the weekend, exceeding seasonal norms by as much as 20°C, the national meteorological office told AFP. More than 17 regions saw highs above 40°C, with Casablanca hitting 39.5°C and Ben Guerir reaching 46.4°C. The intense “chegui” heatwave, driven by a Saharan thermal depression, is forecast to persist in Morocco’s interior, putting further strain on coastal and inland cities alike.
