Morocco, Canary Islands to Link via Subsea Fiber Optic Cable

A new submarine fiber optic cable will connect Morocco and Spain’s Canary Islands, boosting the archipelago’s role as an Atlantic telecom hub. Installation begins late 2025, enhancing Europe-Africa connectivity, Spanish firm Islalink and partner Canalink told Okdiario. The route will run from Gran Canaria to Fuerteventura, then to Morocco’s Tarfaya or Boujdour. The project involves Tenerife’s council and renewable energy institute ITER.
