Morocco to build Africa's first offshore wind farm

Morocco will build Africa’s first offshore wind farm, a 1,000MW project off Essaouira, funded by the Mediterranean Blue Partnership. Construction starts by 2029, supporting Morocco’s goal of 52% renewable energy by 2030. The World Bank highlights the country’s offshore wind potential for clean power and green hydrogen. The site was chosen for strong Atlantic winds averaging 11 m/s. Energy Minister Leila Benali said the project boosts energy independence and economic competitiveness.
