Earlier this year in March, MSF was forced to suspend its medical activities in Libya after the closure of its premises by the Internal Security Agency (ISA). MSF staff were detained, interrogated and then the subsequently released, but they were forced to evacuate their team and had to end the contracts of its Libyan staff. Speaking recently, Steven Purbrick, MSF head of mission for Libya, said “MSF is ready to resume the medical projects that were underway for tuberculosis, mental health and maternal health, for any patient in need of care, and in collaboration with the relevant Libyan authorities, provided that the safety of our staff and patients is guaranteed, MSF calls for its suspension to be lifted.”
