A NATO delegation met with Mauritanian officials in Nouakchott to strengthen military and security cooperation, the Mauritanian News Agency reported last week. Led by Javier Colomina, NATO’s Special Representative for the Southern Neighbourhood, the talks follow recent discussions between Mauritania and France’s Defence Ministry on defense collaboration.
Mauritania, NATO’s only partner in the Sahel, is seen as a key ally amid growing Russian influence in the region.
