NBC News: Trump administration explores plan to relocate 1 million Palestinians to Libya

According to NBC News, the Trump administration has considered a proposal to permanently relocate up to 1 million Palestinians from Gaza to Libya. The report is based on information from five individuals familiar with the matter.

Sources told NBC that Trump officials discussed the proposal with Libyan leaders.

In return for Libya accepting the Palestinians, the U.S. reportedly offered to unfreeze billions of dollars in assets that had been locked for over a decade. Administration officials also explored offering financial incentives—such as free housing and stipends—to encourage Gazans to resettle in Libya, according to the former official.

The potential cost of relocating such a large population would be substantial. It remains unclear who would be expected to bear the financial burden if the plan were adopted. While the Trump administration had previously suggested that Arab nations might assist with Gaza’s reconstruction, those countries have historically opposed any effort to permanently relocate Palestinians.

This news follows recent controversy after it emerged that the administration had explored deporting migrants from the U.S. to Libya—a plan that was blocked by a U.S. federal judge earlier this month.

A spokesperson for Trump denied the NBC report, stating, “The situation on the ground is untenable for such a plan. Such a plan was not discussed and makes no sense.”

Israel was reportedly informed of the proposal but has declined to comment.

Efforts to reach Libya’s two rival governments for comment were unsuccessful. The Tripoli-based government led by President Abdul Hamid Dbeibah did not respond, nor did the Eastern-based administration controlled by Khalifa Haftar’s Libyan National Army.
