Logistics company Samskip has launched a new maritime route connecting Moroccan ports in Agadir and Casablanca with Thamesport in the UK and Rotterdam in the Netherlands, significantly cutting delivery times for fresh produce, according to Moroccan media.

“This new connection represents a major step forward—not only for Samskip, but for the entire supply chain linking Morocco with Northern Europe,” said Ólafur Orri Ólafsson, Samskip’s Chief Business Officer.

The service, known as the “Moroccan Reefer Service,” will operate weekly and transport fruits and vegetables in 45-foot refrigerated containers. Transit time to European destinations is expected to be just six days. Samskip also claims the route could reduce carbon emissions by up to 80% compared to traditional transport methods like Mediterranean ferries and road freight.

In addition to shipping, Samskip will manage customs clearance and inland distribution across Europe, improving efficiency and enhancing the competitiveness of Moroccan agricultural exports.

The initiative is backed by a long-term partnership between Samskip and the Moroccan Fruit Board.

The launch of this cold chain logistics route highlights the growing demand for faster and more reliable transport of temperature-sensitive Moroccan produce to European markets.
