Mauritania shut down nearly 150 migrant smuggling networks in 2024, with dozens more disrupted in just the first few months
The junta in Niamey summoned Algeria's ambassador over "violent" operations by Algiers that force African migrants over the border into Niger, according to AFP.
Since 2014, tens of thousands of West and Central Africans have been refused entry into Algeria which has become a transit point for migrants to reach mainland Europe via the Mediterranean Sea.
Migrants refused entry are generally abandoned in the middle of the desert along Niger's border.
