London based firm Octavius GB Ltd (ACE Modular Construction), alongside Malaysia’s NRY Architects, announced plans this week for a major new airport in Benghazi.
Octavius confirmed it had entered into an MoU with the eastern based Libyan National Development Agency (NDA) in the last few days. NDA head Mahmud Elforjani described the new Benghazi International Airport as “not just a gateway to the world — it’s a gateway to Libya’s future; this project will catalyze trade, tourism, and economic development, while showcasing the immense potential of our people and our geography.”
Richard Evans, CEO of Octavius GB Ltd, said “there is huge opportunity for our British Building Contractor Partners now that Libya is entering a transformative era including the launch of Benghazi International Airport.”
The facility is designed to handle 15 million passengers annually, as well as being able to accommodate the world’s largest aircraft, the Airbus A380. The new airport will boast a 3.8-km runway — the longest in North Africa.
