Police suspect that the nine bodies discovered on a boat drifting off the coast of Pará, Brazil, were migrants from Mauritania and Mali.

Local fishermen found the vessel adrift in the Atlantic Ocean on Saturday.

The Atlantic route from West Africa to the European Union territory is one of the most dangerous in the world.

A significant increase of 500% in migration from Africa's northwest coast to Spain this year has raised concerns among European officials.
