Senegal has cancelled a $6 billion plan to build “Akon City,” a futuristic smart city backed by US-Senegalese musician Akon, Africa News reports. Officials called the cryptocurrency-themed project unrealistic and lacking a viable business model. Launched in 2020, the project had promised jobs and tourism but saw little progress. Authorities say resources will be redirected to more practical infrastructure priorities.
