Siemens Gamesa has signed an agreement to build, finance, and operate a 500-megawatt wind farm in Egypt’s Gulf of Suez, marking the company’s latest investment in the country’s renewable energy sector,Al Ahram Onlinereports. The deal, signed in the presence of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Electricity Minister Mahmoud Esmat, aligns with Egypt’s goal of sourcing 42% of its electricity from renewables by 2030.
The Spanish-German firm has already contributed 1.5 gigawatts of wind capacity in Egypt. The new project supports the government’s strategy to cut emissions, preserve natural gas reserves, and expand green infrastructure.
Despite an energy surplus since 2015, Egypt imposed rolling summer blackouts in recent years due to gas shortages and soaring demand. The country is increasingly courting foreign investment in wind and solar to mitigate such pressure and meet rising energy needs sustainably.
