Tunisia quits African human rights court
Tunisia has withdrawn from the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights, a move condemned by rights groups as a
Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) announced on Monday that Morocco’s arms imports decreased by 26%, while Algeria saw a drop of 73%. Arms imports by Sub-Saharan African countries, however, rose by 4.2% during the same period. The institute also highlighted a rise in arms transfers to West Africa over the past 15 years, due to the deteriorating security conditions. It added that “the total arms imports by West African countries increased by 82% between 2010-2014 and 2020-2024, with Nigeria accounting for the largest share (34%) during the period 2020-2024.”
