Tebboune reaffirms Algeria “will not be subject to forgetfulness or denial” over French colonial rule, on anniversary of 1945 massacres

Speaking in an address to the nation on the 80th anniversary of the May 8, 1945 massacres committed by French authorities, President Tebboune renewed Algeria’s position on addressing the archives, a longstanding source of tension with Paris, stating: “the memory file will not be subject to forgetfulness or denial.”This year’s commemoration comes amid ongoing tensions in Algerian French relations, with recent reciprocal ambassador withdrawals and diplomatic expulsions.
