Libya’s attorney general announced the detention of three suspects accused of storming the Tripoli headquarters of the National Oil Corporation (NOC), Reuters reports. The incident, which the NOC downplayed as a minor dispute, comes amid rising tensions with the eastern-based rival government, which has threatened to declare force majeure on oil facilities and relocate the NOC to eastern-controlled cities like Ras Lanuf.
While the internationally recognized Government of National Unity controls the NOC, most oilfields remain under the influence of eastern commander Khalifa Haftar. The attorney general confirmed video evidence and eyewitness testimony supported charges against the suspects, who were handed over by the defence ministry. Additional arrests are pending.
Despite political volatility and rival claims over Libya's energy infrastructure, national crude production remains steady at nearly 1.4 million barrels per day. Libya’s oil sector continues to operate under fragile conditions shaped by years of division since Gaddafi’s fall.
