Top UN court orders Israel to halt Rafah offensive

The top UN court ordered Israel Friday to halt its offensive in Rafah, a ruling that adds further pressure for a ceasefire in the Hamas-Israel war, according to AFP and other news services.

The International Court of Justice also demanded the release of all hostages held by Hamas. The court’s rulings are legally binding but lack enforcement mechanisms. In addition the court ordered Israel keep open the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt which it closed in advance of its attack on the southern Gaza city.
