Tunisian customs foiled an attempt to smuggle ten protected pink flamingos near the Algerian border, officials said Monday. The birds were found tied up in crates on a truck in Jendouba and later returned to their habitat. Flamingos face threats from illegal hunting, smuggling, and climate change, which has dried up key nesting sites across North Africa, including Tunisia’s Sebkhet Sejoumi.
