A Tunisian court sentenced Sahbi Atig, a senior figure in the opposition Ennahda party, to 15 years in prison for alleged money laundering, his lawyer told Reuters. Atig denies the charges, calling them politically motivated. He is among dozens of opposition figures detained since President Kais Saied assumed sweeping powers in 2021, a shift critics label authoritarian. Judicial independence has come under increasing scrutiny.
